Do you know that feeling to go for a while? The journey cycles are beginning to come back but the next vacation is not yet in sight or you have just a busy period. You see yourself lying on a sunny beach, but seeing something is nice too. Maybe a city trip? Cape Town! It is almost always sunny, a modern city with culture (think of Nelson Mandela’s Robben Island), nature (Table Mountain) and many cozy bars and culinary restaurants. But yes, if you go to South Africa, then it’s nice to see more of the country next to Cape Town. Only you have one week … No problem!

South Africa is a gigantic country where you often drive long distances. But what if you have less time now? Then a visit to South Africa is not a crazy idea at all. During a short visit, think about eight to ten days you can explore a piece of the Cape Region, go safari and taste culture in Swaziland.

Here are two possible travel routes that you can drive in one week.

Short South Africa Itinerary 1: On safari in one week

Johannesburg  – A first night to help with the long flight

Hazyview – One night on the way to the wildlife parks. Want to do anything? Explore the Panoramaroute.

Private reserve – Two nights in the middle of the bush! The private reserve is located on the edge of the Kruger Park. Here you go along with a ranger of trails and really treats nature in search of the big five. Pay attention to his tips, which are very useful for driving in the Kruger Park.

Dullstroom or Nelspruit  – Then it’s time to return to Johannesburg Airport. With a camera full of beautiful pictures of wildlife and untouched nature, it’s time to fly home again. But first sleep overnight in Dullstroom or Nelspruit to bridge the distance to the airport.

This route is based on 9 nights / 10 days including flight days and is possible from € 700, – Euro per person, based on two people, including a B-class car (excluding return trip). If you just want to travel a little shorter then you can also leave Swaziland and travel to the Johannesburg airport via Dullstroom from the Kruger Park. This route takes 7 nights / 8 days in total.

Short South Africa Itinerary 2: The Cape Region In One Week Stellenbosch – Start the trip with a stay in the wine region. bike and walk between the vineyards of the South African Cape Region. Together with a local guide you cycle through the vast valleys, along the many grapes and over small paths. Wineries donate the glasses so you can taste the locally made wines themselves. To stay in the atmosphere, sleep for two nights overlooking miles of fields with grape trees.

Hermanus – At South Africa and safari you may not think about the big five of the underwater world. You spend the night sleeping in the small-scale resort of Hermanus, where you go for kayaking, looking for sea lions, dolphins and whales. While sea lions curiously spat around you, your guide is already looking for whales. (whale season runs from mid June – mid November)

Cape Town – Finish your short South Africa trip with three nights in vibrant Cape Town. The atmosphere of this vibrant world city differs greatly from the rest of South Africa. Climb the Table Mountain and enjoy the outrageous view of the city, take a look at Robben Island, or unwind at the beach at Camps Bay or Hout Bay. There is plenty to experience in the Cape Region and you can not really sit here long enough.
